• 1955- Originally named Lovely Zion Baptist Church located on Shawmut Ave. in Roxbury,Ma the church was established under the guidance of our founding Pastor Rev. R.D. Slater.

• 1956- Lovely Zion moved to 6 Stanwood Street in Dorchester, MA. LZBC was renamed Southern Baptist Church.

• 1959- Southern Baptist Church was incorporated on February 25, 1959.

• 1960- On March 10, 1960 we became officially known as Southern Baptist Church and recieved the church charter.

• 1963- Our Founding Pastor Rev. R.D. Slater was called home.

• 1964- Rev. James C. Chance was called as Pastor and served faithfully until 1983.

• 1964- We marched from 6 Stanwood Street to our present location 29 Winthrop Street. “All things are possibile through God.”

• 1984-2015- For over thirty years the Lord sustained our church through various Pastoral transitions. We honor the life and legacy of Deacon Eugene Reid and Mother Sally Lamar. Their unwavering acts of love and service to SBC will never be forgotten.

• 2015- On Sunday December 27, 2015 God blessed SBC by sending a true servant leader in the person of Pastor James M. Harrison Jr. to serve as Interim Pastor.

• 2016- August 28, 2016 Pastor James M. Harrison Jr. was officially installed as Senior Pastor of The Historic Southern Baptist Church.

• 2020 Through a World Pandemic Over SBC Online Worship Experiences has had over 40K Views. On average we reached over 3,000 people per month.
